Nick Anderson – Making a band work is at once the easiest and most difficult thing in the world. It’s what I imagine pulling a rabbit out of a hat must be like for a burgeoning magician. You buy the bunny, house, feed, and care for it. You practice the act together and get used to having a top hat full of pellets.
Justin Jensen – The lineup at the 2014 Decibel Festival on Friday is stellar and diverse, which means hard choices. Here’s everywhere I wish I could be.
Jeff Wilson – Lee Burridge has been doing this since 1985. Anna Lunoe is arguably one of the biggest DJs in house right now. And Ten Walls, while only being around for a year, has already released three critically acclaimed albums and has quickly risen to popularity.
Cee Cee Hill – Perfume Genius’s Too Bright is a bold record that is worth a listen. The cover of the album, which comes out September 23 on Matador Records, features a picture of Mike Hadreas (aka Perfume Genius) that’s reminiscent of a Dior perfume commercial.
Gemma Alexander – On the first night of Decibel Festival, the Opening Gala at EMP is an obvious choice. I’ll get to see Vancouver duo Sabota; Portland’s Natasha Kmeto with visuals from Effixx; and locally based Lusine. But inevitably at a festival as well curated as Decibel, I wish I could be in two places at once.
