Nine years ago I gave my little buddy Tim TBASA Basaraba a night at Mars Bar, the small Eastlake Club where me and some co-conspirators booked the majority of the shows for a four year period, for him to do start something he believed in: a recurring night where he invited local musicians to come play intimate sets, primarily acoustic and always stripped down.
Sam Hardy – Imagine you’re sitting there with Ian Parton in his parents’ kitchen in Brighton, way back in 2004, watching him piece together what would become his band’s debut album, Thunder, Lightning, Strike.
Gary Horn – In case you hadn’t heard, the Treefort Music Fest is kind of a big deal. Over 450 musicians/bands/DJs/acts will perform over a 5-day span in downtown Boise. In it’s SEVENTH year, Idaho’s capital city will be teeming because, unlike most music festivals, this one includes other “forts” that cater to comedy, film, kids, yoga and others.
Paul Broderson – This morning the Capitol Hill Block Party announced a partial lineup for their 2018 version of their yearly music and arts festival, their 22nd. Keeping with its theme of showcasing a mix of local and national emerging talent alongside often-excellent headliners, returning to the event this year will be Sub Pop Recording Artist and local mini-celeb Father John Misty, the latest project from J. Tillman.
The last time Nashville grunge-punk rockers Bully were in town, it was a one-off, pseudo-announcement/showcase gig at Ballard’s Sunset Tavern to celebrate their signing to Sub Pop Records. At it, the band played mostly to new and existing fans and employees from their new label.
